I received an email today with some questions about my surgery, and I have to say that I was thrilled to share my story with someone else. It feels good to share my experience with someone who appreciates the feedback and doesn't think the surgery was simply a "cosmetic procedure". I don't think people who don't have issues with their feet understand just how problematic it can be to have ungodly looking toes. It really can dictate your day to day life. You don't feel comfortable getting a pedicure, wearing sandals, wearing open to shoes, shopping for shoes, taking your shoes off at friends' homes, going on vacation, getting undressed around your significant other…etc, etc, etc. I mean, imagine trying to hide a portion of your body that is so susceptible to exposure? Nearly all of the warm weather shoes you see today have some level of toe exposure, and I remember a time when I loathed the summertime because I couldn't wear sandals. Ridiculous, right? Yea, well try telling that to someone who's toes are garish.
I do have a few updated photos of my toes from various vacations that I have taken over the past few years, and I would be lying if I didn't say that nearly every pair of shoes in my closet are peep/open toe and/or a strappy sandal of some sort. I also thoroughly enjoy getting a pedicure on a consistent and regular basis. In a nutshell…I feel free. Free of embarrassment from my toes.
My toes are on the far left.
My Manolo Blahnik wedding shoes…I die from looking at them every day. This was a dream come true! Never mind the fact that this picture was taken after a full mass ceremony (oy vey!) and several hours of photographs, so my toes were swollen and my feet were ON FIRE!!
